Welcome back!
It’s great to have you for this Tuesday's edition of the newsletter.
Writing my emails to you all has become one of my favorite things to do throughout the week.
This Friday, I’m going to share a handful of tips on writing newsletter-specific content and breaking down what goes into creating a great newsletter week in and week out (something I aspire to do one day).
But for today? After receiving an email reply asking my advice on building and growing the newsletter… this email is all about growing your newsletter.
Let’s get into it:
Disclaimer: Growing your newsletter and optimizing your newsletter for opens and clicks are two different things.
The best advice I received is to “optimize for one thing at a time.” If your focus is on growing your newsletter, grow it.
If your focus is on increasing your opens and click rates, then do that.
That doesn’t mean you don’t care about getting quality subscribers but just know your engagement won’t be as great when you’re intentionally growing your newsletter through various methods. That’s the nature of it.
Lead Magnets & Giveaways
Lead magnets are one of the best ways to grow your newsletter.
Checklists
Free Courses
Step-by-Step Guides
These are all good examples of lead magnets to use depending on your niche.
Giveaways have gotten a bad reputation over the past year or so because they’ve been abused by “money twitter.” Every person was creating a giveaway and the value of them slowly started to go down.
If you’re going to do a giveaway, it better be unique and add a ton of value to your audience.
Auto-Plugs & Auto-DMs
Auto-plugs are a simple and effective way to grow your list. When creating content on social media, set an automation that puts a post underneath your existing post that encourages your audience to either subscribe directly to your newsletter or grab one of your lead magnets.
Platforms like TweetHunter and Hypefury both allow you to do this.
Drippi.AI is a must to set up auto-DMs when someone follows you. Send a brief message that thanks them for the follow and encourages them to sign up for your newsletter.
Meta Ads
Meta Ads are a mountain of a project to figure out. But once you do, you can consistently and predictably grow your newsletter for anywhere from $2-3 a subscriber.
The more revenue you’re able to generate from your newsletter, the more you’re able to justify spending money on Meta Ads.
Beehiiv Distribution Methods
I’m biased because I use Beehiiv for myself and for our clients, but you should be using Beehiiv for the simple ability to grow your newsletter with ease, amongst many other reasons to use Beehiiv.
Sign up for Boosts in their platform, set an amount you’re willing to pay and watch the requests come in for people to promote your newsletter to their audiences.
It’s that easy!
Thanks for reading!
Have a great weekend,
Eric
