It's Time...

For today’s newsletter, I write this from scratch.

I’ve realized I haven’t done something in a while…

I haven’t properly introduced (or reintroduced) myself to many of you.

So, who is Eric Higgs, and why tf are you getting emails from me?

Hi, I’m Eric.

In November of 2023, I made a big change in my life. I quit my full-time, steady-income job as a financial advisor in central Illinois.

I gave up the “known” and pursued the world of the “unknown” that is online entrepreneurship.

It’s something I have been dreaming about doing for years.

I graduated college in April of 2020. I went home for Spring Break and ended up never going back.

From 2020 to November of 2023, I was working in finance as an advisor, at one point managing over $40M at the age of 24.

To say that I felt like an imposter would be an understatement.

It paid well, I was running my own office, and everything seemed to be going great.

They even paid for my fiancee and I to spend a week in Italy. (Disclaimer: I had to earn the trip by hitting certain metrics running the practice)

On the outside looking in, I was living the dream. Everything was fine and dandy except for one part…

Every additional day I spent going to that office was a reminder that I gave up on my dreams and was officially “playing it safe.”

I got a look at what the next 30 years of my life was going to look like:

Get up. Put on dress clothes. Drive the same route. Sit in the same chair. Doing the exact same thing… Day after day.

I couldn’t do it anymore…

I’ve known since I was a kid that I wanted to be an entrepreneur… I wanted to be a business owner. I never knew what that would mean exactly, but I wanted to do my own thing, work when I wanted to, and travel around the world while running a business.

It wasn’t until October of 2022 that I figured out what that could look like… I was scrolling what was called “money Twitter” at the time and realized I could build a business on the back of social media.

So, starting in January of 2023, I began posting content online on Twitter, aiming to build a personal brand around self-improvement.

It was the only skill I knew at the time. As a former college athlete, I was obsessed with all things high performance, productivity, and improving yourself.

So every day that’s what I would write about.

• Morning routines

• Time blocking

• Productivity

You name it…

In June of 2023, I started taking online business serious.

I hired a mentor and followed every step.

I started learning the game and making progress.

In late September of 2023, I decided to take half of my savings and invest in a coaching program.

I bet big and it paid off even bigger.

I got to work 1-1 with Clifton AKA Legacy Builder.

…

That one decision changed my life and has led me to where I am today.

Going through his program, he shared some of the things he wanted help with within his business, which happened to be newsletters.

I took over his newsletter and started managing every aspect of it from the writing to the growth.

I got my first taste of online business and made my first $1 online.

Immediately I was hooked.

The next week, still getting up and going to the same office, I let the manager of our region know I was quitting as a financial advisor and moving on to a different industry.

I didn’t know if he was going to ask me to leave right away or let me still upkeep the office until they could put another advisor in there.

I ended up staying on for another 2 months and officially parted ways with my life as a financial advisor on November 17th, 2023.

Since that day, I haven’t looked back… or even thought about looking back.

Over the next 6 months, I worked in Clifton’s business and helped him with onboarding and client communication.

In March, we co-founded Summit Group, which is the email marketing and newsletter agency I’ve shared many times before.

We’re only a few months in, and we already have 6 clients.

It’s been an incredible journey and I look forward to sharing more updates with you all.
