This week, let’s talk about the importance of social media for your business.

Although a social media presence is one of the keys to lead generation for online businesses, many businesses either don’t use it or, if they do, they often fail to use it well. So, I want to help you by offering three tips to start you on the path of generating leads.

Consistent Posting

The first step to establishing a strong social media presence for your business is posting regularly. This means posting short posts and interacting with comments every day. Also, posting longer posts at least once or twice a week will help your engagement.

Engaging with your audience is important, as well. Responding to comments, acknowledging people who share your posts, and sharing relevant posts from other accounts are all great ways to both provide value to your audience and boost your profile in the algorithm.

Topics to consider are current events in your niche, broader current events and how they’ll affect your niche, and project updates from your business.

Maximize Your Profile

The next key to generating leads and building your social media presence is maximizing your business profile. When you start gaining attention because of your regular posting and engagement, you want to have an excellent landing page from which people can learn about you. There are a few aspects that can make your profile stand out.

You’ll need to make sure your profile image is up to date. If it’s of you, it should be professional but not stuffy. If it’s of your business logo, make sure it’s on-brand and your most recent logo. Your banner image also needs to be on-brand. Whether you use graphic design to explain about the company or use a photo to visually communicate what your company stands for, you still need the banner on your page filled with something meaningful.

After your profile images are taken care of, you need to take care of your bio. Your bio should include quick phrases that communicate what your business is and what it stands for. It should also communicate your basic mission; i.e. “we help X kind of people accomplish Y.” Finally, you need to include a link to your business’s website, to book a call with you, and/or a link to sign up for your newsletter, including a mention of your current lead magnet. This last point brings me to the final tip I have for you this week.

Use Lead Magnets

Once you’re posting regularly and your bio is set up, you need to develop and promote lead magnets. This is something like a tool or resource that you can give away for “free” in exchange for someone signing up for your email newsletter. This is part of why it’s important to include that link in your bio. Your lead magnet will draw people to sign up for your newsletter, whether through a post or your bio.

These lead magnets need to provide real value to your audience. If your magnet is truly valuable, it will also help establish your brand as an authority in your niche. You can have a standard magnet, develop specific magnets for certain promotions, and even offer free exploratory calls, all as a means of getting subscribers to your email list. While not everyone who subscribes this way will stay subscribed, plenty will, especially if you’re providing valuable niche content in your newsletter.

Lead magnets also provide great opportunities for growing your audience. You can ask people to like and comment or share for certain magnets, in addition to requiring their email address to receive the resource.

The main thing to remember when developing your social media strategy is to regularly call people to action. You don’t want to bombard your audience with constant requests, but you do want to keep the fact that you produce a valuable newsletter and other resources in front of them.

When you implement these three strategies in your social media presence, you’ll see increased subscriptions to your newsletter and more leads for your business.
