"Rest Days Are Growth Days"
How to Truly Disconnect
I was listening to a YouTube video where a fitness trainer was sharing his advice around getting in the best shape of your life.
Everything was pretty standard advice until he said something that took me back…
“Rest days are growth days.”
In anything I’ve done in my life, I’ve never viewed “rest” as something that actually helps you progress and move forward.
In my business, a “rest day” typically involves me taking an afternoon off where I go do something but still think about the business or the many things I have on my to-do list.
I can’t even remember the last time I was able to fully disconnect from work.
And that’s not healthy.
So once I heard the trainer say, “rest days are growth days,” it made total sense to me in the fitness space… and with my work.
If you’re always pounding away at your muscles and breaking them down, but not giving them a chance to recover, you’re not going to make progress and you’re eventually going to burn out or injure yourself.
The same is true for your work or your business.
If you’re always on 100% of the time, feeling like you should be working 24/7, you’re never giving your mind a chance to rest and reset.
It’s the constant grinding away that leads to unnecessary stress, anxiety, and overwhelm.
So today, I want to share some tips on how I plan to implement this new-found philosophy of “rest days are growth days” in hopes that it helps you too.
Let’s get into it:
If you’re like me, you’re always looking for new and insightful newsletters to read.
One of my favorites that I’ve been reading a ton lately is The Small Business Mentor.
Alan, the writer of the newsletter, has built his government contracting business to over $30M in revenue.
In his newsletter, he shares everything he’s learned along the way.
And my favorite part?
He’s a no BS kind of guy… you get all of the details, all of the information you need, without the fluff.

Schedule Downtime
If you’re like me, you live and die by your calendar. If it’s not on my calendar, it’s not getting done.
If you struggle to find downtime, put it on your calendar.
Limit Technology & Get Outside
While easier said than done, taking time away from our devices can lead to so much mental clarity and energy. Our minds are always stimulated by scrolling, watching, or reading something on our phones or computers.
Go for a walk, hike, or do a workout outside and leave your phone at home. There’s something about being out side in nature that helps so much with our mental health.
Find a Hobby
Hobbies don’t have to be weird or anything unique. If you like to woodwork, take some time off the business this weekend and work in the shed.
Things like golf, exercising, cooking, music, really anything. that allows you to focus on something other than work and get your mind off things, can really help when it comes to resting and recharging.
