My Pivot from Financial Advisor to Content Agency Partner

The Intelligent Marketer

Hey ,

Welcome back to The Intelligent Marketer, where over 12,263 growth-minded founders, agency owners, and marketers go to learn modern marketing strategies.

I always knew I didn’t want a traditional 9-5.

Even when I took the “safe” career path as a financial advisor, I knew it wasn’t permanent.

It was a placeholder until I figured out how to build something on my own terms.

The problem?

I didn’t know what that “something” would be.

I just knew I wasn’t built for 30 years in an office.

So in January 2023, I stopped overthinking and started writing online.

I still remember sitting in that chair surrounded by ugly green and yellow walls when I saw a post on LinkedIn about building a personal branding, and thought:

“This is it. This is how I break out.”

I wrote my first posts on X.

I tracked every small win, 300 followers, then 500, then 800… once I reached 1,000 I felt like I made it.

But more importantly, I was finally building leverage.

Fast forward to today:

It’s been well over a year of quitting my 9-5 as a financial advisor, and I’m now the Head Editor and Partner at Legacy Builder, a content agency working with founders, CEOs, and executives to grow their personal brands through content and newsletters.

I didn’t know every step along the way.

These days, I’m not tied to an office or a clock.

Working with Legacy Builder gives me two of the most important freedoms I can ask for at this stage in my life:

  • Location freedom

  • Time freedom

And making triple what I was as a financial advisor.

I get to do work I enjoy, with amazing people, from wherever I want, without waiting for vacation days or getting permission to take time off.

A Few Things I Learned About Pivoting On Purpose:

  1. You don’t need a full blueprint, just a general direction.

I didn’t know how I’d get here. I just knew where I wanted to end up.

  2. Start before you feel ready.

If you’re waiting to “feel qualified,” you’ll be waiting forever.

  3. Relationships > Resumes.

DMs, conversations, and taking risks on opportunities mattered more than any title I had before.

If you’re stuck in a role you know isn’t meant to be forever…

Start building the exit ramp now.

It won’t happen overnight, but momentum compounds fast when you’re intentional.

If you’re working on your own pivot, feel free to reply.

Would love to chat and share more of what worked (and what I’d do differently).

P.S. I’ll be sharing more lessons on content, personal branding, and building a career outside the traditional path. Stay tuned.
