10 Reasons to Double Down on Your Newsletter
Creator Summit Newsletter
Hey ,
Welcome back to the Creator Summit Newsletter, the go-to marketing resource for over 12,259 Founders, CEOs, and Marketers.
Before we get into today’s message, let’s hear from today's sponsor:
Who really owns your audience?
Being a Creator has never been easy, but unpredictable algorithms make connecting with your audience on social media harder than ever.
Enter beehiiv, the newsletter platform used to send this very email.
beehiiv frees you from the algorithms, giving you the tools to connect and create a more direct relationship with your followers.
Plus, with a network of premium advertisers and paid subscription options, you can tap into new revenue streams from day one.
Welcome to this Tuesday’s edition of the newsletter!
I’ve written here before about why you should start a newsletter for your business. This week, I want to focus specifically on the business aspect of that claim.
A newsletter is one of the best marketing moves you can make… I say that because I’ve seen firsthand the impact a newsletter can have on a business.
Specifically, let’s look at 10 reasons why building a newsletter is the best business decision you can make:
1. Direct Communication With Your Audience
Newsletters allow you to reach your audience directly, free from the algorithms of social media. If they sign up for your newsletter, you’ll be in their inbox. It’s as simple as that.
You also control what they see and how often, making it easier to craft your brand and image exactly how you’d like.
2. Increased Website Engagement
Every time you send an email, you’re offering an opportunity for someone to visit your website. Whether you’re promoting new blog posts, a sale, or just reminding your audience of a product or service you offer, you’re driving potential website traffic.
Of course, increased traffic also helps your SEO results and can lead to more visits to your site from internet searches.
3. You Own Your Audience Data
Unlike followers on social media, you own your list of email subscribers. Whichever platform you choose for your newsletter (see my newsletter from a couple of weeks ago for why I chose Beehiiv), you can export your email list and retain that asset.
Regardless of software changes, algorithm updates, or other external factors, you’ve got your list to nurture and grow.
4. Cost-Effective Marketing
Email newsletters are an extremely cost-effective marketing tool. For minimal cost, you can reach a huge audience.
On top of that, it’s not just any audience you’re reaching. You’re reaching an audience already interested in your work. It’s an amazingly inexpensive way to drive conversions and build relationships with your audience.
5. Community-Building
We all love to be part of the in-group. By giving exclusive information and offers to your newsletter recipients, you craft that kind of community with your audience.
Building a community like that not only provides more value to your audience but also deepens customer loyalty.
6. High ROI
One of the reasons email newsletters are so cost-effective (see point 4) is that they have a high ROI. For the amount of money it costs you to send a few emails in a marketing campaign, you can significantly boost your revenue.
Maintaining an email list can make your newsletter a reliable, revenue-generating asset.
7. Marketing Funnel Integration
Newsletters are an excellent strategy for enhancing your marketing funnel. From awareness of your brand to conversion from an email, a newsletter helps move your audience closer to a purchase.
These funnels can also be personalized based on specific subscriber behavior, making them even more effective.
8. Automation and Scalability
Most email newsletter platforms offer automation tools that allow you to send specific messages and email sequences based on subscriber behavior. This not only saves you time but helps your subscribers see content relevant to them.
This automation allows you to scale your newsletter without adding much more effort at all.
It’s truly a win-win scenario.
9. Sustainable Long-Term Growth
One of the best characteristics of owning your email list is its longevity. An email list enables long-term growth for your business as you build brand loyalty through relationships and relevant content.
In contrast to ads, which require continual payments to a broad audience, email newsletters give you specified content for an already-interested audience over a long time.
10. Audience Segmentation and Personalization
I mentioned it briefly above, but it merits some more detail. Email newsletters provide specified content to your audience. I don’t want to gloss over this point. It’s potentially one of the most powerful aspects of email newsletters.
Your subscribers are already interested in your product or service and want to hear about it. They’re already several steps toward conversion. Most platforms make it easy to set up email sequences based on subscriber behavior, so all you have to do is spend some time reviewing your analytics.
Once you notice a trend (customers who buy this item also typically buy this other item), you can create a sequence to market those related products to customers who bought the initial one.
These are just 10 reasons why starting a newsletter is a great business decision. I firmly believe that it’s one of the most productive ways you can engage with your audience.
